Description
Andrew Zumwalt arrived in America in 1737, settling first in Pennsylvania then Frederick County, Virginia where he died in 1764. John Braley left Ireland about 1752, sailed to Philadelphia and settled in North Carolina where he died in 1798. Descendants of both families settled in Tennessee, Missouri, California, Texas, Virginia, Kentucky and elsewhere.

Gideon Braley was born 29 January 1728 on Middleborough, Massachusetts. He married Patience Mayo, daughter of John Mayo and Susannah Freeman, 5 July 1750. They had two known sons, Samuel and Gideon. Johanes Kuster was born ca. 1760 in Pennsylvania. He married Catherine Gohn at York, Pennsylvania, in 1780. They had seven children, 1781- 1793, born in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia. He died in 1837 in Botetourt County, Virginia. Descendants spelled their surname "Custer" and lived in Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and elsewhere.
