George Washington Cave was born 23 January 1847 in Green County, Missouri. His parents were John Tolbert Cave (1824-1853) and Elizabeth Preston. He married Eliza Frances Fulton and they had eight children. He died 2 February 1922 in Collin County, Texas. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Tennessee and Texas.

Descendants of Joseph Ryan who is presumed to have been born 1778 or 1787 in Virginia or North Carolina. He married Martha Holt, daughter of Drury and Elizabeth Rogers Holt. Martha died between 1850 and 1858, when Joseph remarried giving his age as 72.
