The emigrant ancestor of this family was Andreas Beyerle (Andrew Byerly) (1715-1774), who came from Alsace, France to Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1738. He lived in Bushy Run on the frontier near Fort Pitt (Pittsburgh). The next two generations remained in western Pennsylvania. Andrew Byerly (1715-1774) was born near Strassbourg, Germany. He came to the U.S. in 1738 and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. His descendant, Andrew Jackson Byerly (1836-1919), was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania and moved to Iowa in 1861. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania, Iowa, Illinois, South Dakota, Ohio, Wisconsin, and elsewhere.

John Jacob Byerly (d. ca. 1771) and his family, emigrated from the Palatinate of Germany, ca. 1750 and settled first in Pennsylvania, then followed the German migration to North Carolina. He and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, had at least six children, ca. 1745-before 1760. John Jacob and Mary Elizabeth Byerly are buried at the Beck's Church Cemetry, Rowan County, North Carolina. Descendants lived in North Carolina, Illinois, Indiana and elsewhere.
