Jared Canfield (1789-1870), son of Dennis Canfield, was born in Danby, Vermont. He migrated to Erie County, New York in about 1809 or 1810. He lived there until 1852 at which time he moved to Milan, Ohio. He was married three times: 1. Sarah King; 2. Phoebe Dart; 3. Catherine Sly. He had sixteen children. Sherman Fletcher Canfield (1864-1911), a son of Fletcher Mose Canfield and Marcia Melissa Fisher, was born in Wisconsin. He married Ida Mae Hopping (1869-1947), a daughter of Thomas T. Johann ("John") Jacob Lorenz (1848-1910), a son of Johann Jacob Lorenz and Catharina Margaretha Thomsen, was born in Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1867, settling in Nebraska, then Kansas some twenty years later. He married Pauline Wagner (1863-1943), a daughter of John Wagner and Anna Mary Ripsh, in 1879. They had twelve children. Most descendants live in Colorado.
