The family of Lyde of Loventor in Devon is one of the older families of the area. The name Lyde is said to come from Lyth, which is middle English for "slope." Peter Lyde of Loventor (1533-1596) is considered to be the founder of the Lyde family and was the first Lyde to have lived on the estates at Loventor. Numerous descendents live throughout England. Associated families include Caunter and Carew.

His grandparents were John Henry Stevens (1857-1930), Ellen Carew (1858-1924), Thomas Sidney Flanagan (1869-1935) and Anne Fahey (b. 1871). Ancestors and relatives lived mainly in Scotland, Ireland, New York, Illinois, Iowa, and Oregon.

Henry Crew (ca. 1811-1885), a son of Samuel and Rosanna Crew, was born in England. He married Charlotte Carolyn Bradley (1801-1886), the daughter of Edward and Jane Bradley, ca. 1832. They had six children, all born in Michigan. Most descendants live in Canada, with some in the United States as well.

John and Essex Beville were sons of John and Mary Clement Beville of Huntingdonshire, England. Essex married Amy Butler about 1669 in Henrico Co., Va. where their five children were reared. Amy also married Henry Kent and Thomas Bott. Descendants lived chiefly in Virginia. Ancestry is traced to William de Beville prior to 1066.
