James Cowherd was born in about 1660 in Somerset, England. He emigrated and settled in Virginia. He married Mary Coolidge Alloway. He died 28 May 1717 in Richmond County, Virginia. Direct line descendant, Thomas Jones Cowart, son of Lewis Cowart and Ozella Bradley, was born 1 July 1845 in Cooper Gap, North Carolina. Robert Hudson (living in 1694) purchased property in East Hampton, New York, where he raised a family of ten children. In 1797, a descendant Shadrach Hudson left Mendham, New Jersey and settled in Miami Co., Ohio. Another descendant, John Hathaway Hudson moved from Newark, New Jersey to Milford, Michigan in 1839.
