Ferdinandus VanSicklen, was born in Ghent, Belgium, in 1635. He later emigrated and settled near Coney Island, New York. It is believed that he is the ancestor of all American VanSickles. He married Evan Jansen, the daughter of Anthony and Grietje Jansen. Most members of the family moved about 40 miles west into New Jersey near Somerville.
