Ferdinandus VanSicklen, was born in Ghent, Belgium, in 1635. He later emigrated and settled near Coney Island, New York. It is believed that he is the ancestor of all American VanSickles. He was among the settlers at Saybrook, Connecticut, moved to Rye, New York, ca. 1650, and in 1667 to Greenwich, Connecticut, where he died in 1670.
