William Arley Gardner, son of Walter Nathan Gardner and Mary Eliza Latham, was born 4 Nov 1872. He married Bertha Millicent Cassler, daughter of Lafayette Cassler and Melvina Amelia Weaver, on 9 Sep 1897 in Cooke County, Texas. They had 5 children. Wendell Essig was born in the canton of Berne, Switzerland ca. 1700. He came to Baltimore in 1750, married Anne Eve Matte, and settled near Hagarstown, Maryland. Their son, Simon (1754-1852), settled in Pennsylvania. He married Julia Schneer (1761-1844) and later eventually moved from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania to Stark County, Ohio in 1808. Descendants lived in Ohio, Indiana, and elsewhere.
