"John Bainbridge, earliest known ancestor of the New Jersey family of Bainbridge, is first found recorded, we are convinced, when on 1 Sept. 1651 "the wife of John Brainbrig of Kirkgait" was buried in the Parish of Leeds, West Riding, Yorkshire, England. This is the only entry of a John Bainbridge in the Leeds registers, and, as the unnamed deceased is called "wife" and not "widow," it seems clear that John was still living, but he must have been...
