Mathias Elmore, a Quaker, and his wife, Charity, had at least three children. The family was living in Burlington County, New Jersey, by 1738, when their daughter, Sarah, married James Dennis. Mathias and Charity, with their son William (1726-1792) and his wife, Abigail, were living in Frederick County, Virginia, by 1749. Raymond Gibson Christy was born in Iowa in 1909. His parents brought him west when he was a young man settling in Wyoming. He married Irma Lucille Bundy and they were the parents of four children. Material on their ancestral lines is included in this volume compiled for the benefit of their descendants. Descendants now live in Colorado, Wyoming, and elsewhere.

John Cates Sr. (1753-1827?) came to Jefferson County, Tennessee from Orange County, North Carolina in 1782; he was married twice and was the ancestor of many Tennessee families surnamed Cates.
Colonel William Parker settled in Sugar Creek Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania in 1798; he was married to Mary Moore and they had five children.

John Creeper (1805-1888) and his wife, Hannah Doney (1808-1881), both born in Altarnun, Cornwall, England, were the parents of ten children, six of whom immigrated to Canada. Two remained in Cornwall and two died young. Possibly ancestry is traced to Edward Creeber, whose son, Thomas Creeper, was born in Werrington in 1707. Thomas married Mary Doidgen in 1730 in North Petherwin, Devon, England. Descendants lived in Ontario and Cornwall, England....

Joseph Elmore was born 22 March 1772 in Newberry County, South Carolina. His parents were William Elmore and Abigail Ridgeway. He married Martha Taylor, daughter of William Taylor and Mary. They had one known daughter, Mary, who married Joseph Christy in 1826 in Miami County, Ohio. He married Rachel Pemberton in 1817 and they had six children. He died in 1847 in Miami County, Ohio.

John Burton (1685-1763) was the son of John Burton of Durham, England. He married first, Abigail Moulton and was settled in Sutton, Mass. A later descendant, Charles Winfield, (b.1827) was the son of Hiram Burton and Harriet Skinner of Brocton, NY. Charles married Helen Walker in 1858. They later settled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Some family members spelled the family name "Burdon." Several generations of descendants are given.
