In 1949 he married Marjorie May Clampitt (1926- ) who was born in Iowa and was the daughter of Wendall Stuart Clampitt (1898-1980) and Ethel Lorena Grimes. Robert and Marjorie were the parents of four children. Descendants live in the United States.
