Matthew Clarkson was born in England, and visited New England in 1685/86. He immigrated to New York in 1690/91 and married Catherina van Schaick in 1692/93. He died in 1702.

The Clarkson family and the town of Wisbech in Norfolk have been closely associated for several centuries. Thomas Clarkson (1760-1846) and his brother, John Clarkson (1764-1828) were particularly important for the role they played in the abolition of the African slave trade. John even served for a year or so as governor of Sierra Leone. Both men left a large posterity who presently live in the British Isles, Canada and the United States.

Simon Crosby, his wife, Ann, and son, Thomas, emigrated from England to America and settled at Newtown (now Cambridge), Massachusetts, where he was admitted as a freeman in 1636. They had two more sons born in Newtown. He died in 1639. His widow married the Rev. William Thomas of Braintree (now Quincy) about 1646. Joseph, the third son, was born in Newtown in 1639. Thomas Clarkson was christened 25 March 1763 in Kingsbury, Warwickshire, England, son of Samuel Clarkson and Mary Hargraves. He married Catherine Rayson 18 August 1794 in Bedworth, Warwickshire, England. She was the daughter of Thomas Rayson and Sarah Bennett. Thomas died in 1824 and Catherine in 1839. Both died in the Sydney area of Australia.
Descendants are located mainly in New South Wales, Australia.

Jacob R. Crumbaugh was born in 1784 in Maryland. He married three times and was the father of eight children. He died in 1840 at New Albany, Indiana.
