John Cogswell, son of Edward and Alice Cogswell, was born at Westbury Leigh, Wiltshire, England, in 1592. He married Elizabeth Thompson, daughter of Rev. William and Phillis Thompson, 10 Sept. 1615. They had nine children. The family immigrated to America in 1635 and settled at Ipswich, Massachusetts. He died 29 Nov. 1669.
