Joseph Mathew Ellison was born 15 September 1835 in Talbot County, Georgia. His parents were John Ellison and Elizabeth D.Patterson. He married Camilla Searcy Key 10 December 1857 in Creek Stand, Macon County, Alabama. Her parents were Henry Key III and Judith George. Joseph and Camilla had nine children. Their ancestors, descendants and relatives lived in Alabama, Georgia, Virginia, New York, Mississippi, Illinois and elsewhere.
