James Cowherd was born in about 1660 in Somerset, England. He emigrated and settled in Virginia. He married Mary Coolidge Alloway. He died 28 May 1717 in Richmond County, Virginia. Direct line descendant, Thomas Jones Cowart, son of Lewis Cowart and Ozella Bradley, was born 1 July 1845 in Cooper Gap, North Carolina. Isaac Hall Sr. (1765-1813), a Revolutionary soldier, married Polly Melson and had six children. He was probably born in Maryland, and some evidence indicates he might have been born about 1750.
