Description
The name Cogswell is derived from Coggeshall and was given to those who lived around Coggeshall, a monastary in the Diocese of St. Albans. Sir Thomas Coggeshall (ca. 1159) is considered to be the common ancestor to the numerous Cogswells and Coxwells who live in England, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Chiefly descendants of William Johnson and Lucy Rosannah Reese. He was born 16 Oct 1750 in Virginia. He married Lucy Rosannah Reese in 1778. He died 6 May 1830 in Georgia. They were the parents of eleven children.

John Grace died in Westmoreland County, Virginia in 1717. He had two sons, William (1707-1769) and James (1711-ca.1745). Traces descendants of William's five children by Ann. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in North Carolina, Georgia and Texas.
