James Crane was born 1 April 1830 in Penally, Pembrokeshire, Wales. His parents were George Crane and Elizabeth Harris. He emigrated from England to the United States in 1856, and to Utah in 1858. He married Alice Davis in 1858. He married Elizabeth Stewart in 1865. They had eight children. He married Rachel Briggs in 1869. They had seven children. He died 6 July 1886 in Herriman, Utah.

Winthrop Murray Crane (1853-1920) was born in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, the son of Zenas Marshall Crane. He was a paper manufacturer and politian. He served as Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, 1897-1899; Governor of Massachusetts, 1900-1902; and United States senator, 1904-1913. He married Josephine P. Boardman in 1906.
