George Hartley, son of David Hartley and Betsey Scholefield, was born in 1849 in Liversedge, Yorkshire, England. He married Rebecca Richards, daughter of Samuel RIchards and Mary Ann Tolley, in 1870 in Bradford, Yorkshire. They had three children. He died in 1933 in Ogden, Utah.
