John Kitchel was born in 1809 in Morris County, New Jersey. He married Esther Peck in 1833 in Ohio. They had eight children. They moved to Lake County, Indiana in 1836 and to Warren County, Iowa in 1851. He died 3 March 1860 in Palmyra, Iowa.
