Johann Philipp Gruss (1722-1804) arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from his native Germany in 1754. He married Anna Catherina shortly after his arrival and they had five children. They eventually settled in North Carolina. One of their sons changed the spelling of his name from Gruss to Cruse. His name was John Adam Cruse (1761-1821) and he married Rosanna Cress in 1784. Elisha Hewitt (1800-1863) was born in Cayuga, New York State. He went to Canada in 1819 and settled in Waterloo county. He married Rachel Cress (1797-1846). Rachel was born in Pennsylvania, daughter of Simon and Catharine. Rachel's family moved to Waterloo County in 1806. Most descendants live in Wisconsin, Michigan and Waterloo County.

George Bernard Mann was the son of Hans Mann. He was born in Germany in 1701. He married Anna Geisser in 1723 and they had three children. He married Ann Margretha in 1731 and they had seven children. They emigrated in 1732 and settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
