Edward Cartwright (b.1640) immigrated from England to Boston, Massachusetts, and later moved to the Isles of Shoals, Maine. Christopher, Reuben and Samuel (three sons of Nicholas of the third generation) served with the American forces during the battle at Québec in 1775. Descendants lived throughout the United States. Spencer C. Cates (1815-1869) was the son of John Cates (1781-1836) and Nancy Crouch (1786-1850) of Green County, Kentucky. He married Phoebe Cunningham (1813-1885) in 1843 while living in Illinois. William Donaldson (d. 1814) married Barbara Allen Walker in 1792 at Staunton, Virginia. He was of Scottish lineage and, according to family legends, immigrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania "... as a child with three brothers..." He died in Kentucky.
