Description
Josiah Davisson was born 1 December 1743. He married his first wife and had two known sons, Jessie and William. He married Anna or Nancy Williams in about 1797 and had seven children. They moved from Virginia to Ohio in 1816. Josiah died 9 September 1825 in Monroe Township, Preble County, Ohio. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Ohio and Indiana.

Daniel Davisson I (1630-1693) was transported from Scotland to Essex, Massachusetts as "... one of the victims of the Cromwellian victories over the Scotch Covenanters in 1650-51." He married Margaret Low in 1657, and settled at Ipswich, Massachusetts. Descendants lived in New England, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and elsewhere.

The surname Davidson or Davison is said to have originated from the Gaelic, MacDaibhidh. The name literally means the son of David or Davy. Two of the earliest Davisons in America were Nicholas Davison (1611-1664) and Daniel Davison (1630-1693) who settled in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Davisons also settled in Virginia, Maryland and New Jersey at a very early date. Descendants live throughout the United States.

James Gatch Davisson was born, to Isaac Davisson, Jr. and Sarah Curl, 23 January 1829 South Charleston, Madison Township, Clark, Ohio. He died 11 July 1927 in Atlanta, Macon, Missouri. He married Susan Sarah Wingate 7 September 1853. Sarah, daughter of Peter Wingate and Elizabeth Ward, was born 14 December 1833 in New Castle, New Castle, Delaware. She died 22 September 1894 in Atlanta, Macon, Missouri. They had eleven children.
