Jan Jacobs Gauw (1786-1868) was the son of Jacob Gauw and Antje van Citters of Den Helder, Holland. He married Aafje Pieters Dros, the daughter of Pieter Pieters Dros and Tryntje Timmers of the Island of Texel. They later moved to Joure, Friesland where he was a schoolmaster.
