James S. Dooley was born in 1746 in Richmond, Virginia. He married Margaret Rachell McKinney in 1766. They had only one son who survived to adulthood, William Bell Dooley (1772-1822). Margaret died in about 1778 in Kentucky. James married Rachel Moore in 1786 and they had three children. James died in 1824 in Tennessee. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Tennessee, Texas and Louisiana.
