Description
The first Dovel family in America was David Sr. and Barbara. They lived near Alma, Page County, Virginia. There were eight children. David died ca. 1807 and Barbara died ca. 1820.
The county of Page was not formed until 1831 from the counties of Rockingham and Shenandoah, which had been formed from Augusta County in 1778.

John (Cuntz) Koontz (b. 1706), thought to be the son of immigrant Joseph Cuntz and Anna Gertrud Reinschmidt, was born in Germany and immigrated to Earltown, Pennsylvania, where he married Anna Elisabetha Catherine Stoever in 1738. He died after 1745. Descendants lived throughout the United States.

Andrew Burnside (1715-1787) was born in Clogher, Tyrone Co., Ireland. He immigrated to the United States prior to 1765 and lived in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. He later migrated to Loudoun Co., Virginia and married twice. Descendants lived primarily in Ohio, Missouri and elsewhere.

Charles Keyser (ca. 1702-1778) emigrated in 1749 from Germany to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth Grossgloss. They moved to Virginia. Charles served with General Braddock in 1755 and moved to Shenandoah County, Virginia, in 1765. Relatives and members of these families lived in Kentucky, Virginia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ohio, Illinois, West Virginia and elsewhere.
