William Dryden was born 28 March 1638 in Inversk, Mussilburgh, Scotland. He married Agnes in about 1660. They had seven children. They were living in Somerset County, Maryland by 1685. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Maryland, Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Utah and California. Includes Mullis, Neihart, Whitlow and related families.

Thomas Dryden, the first proven ancestor, was born in Crailig, Scotland in 1744 and died in 1805 at St. Boswell, Scotland. He married Jean Thomson and when she died he married Janet Fletcher. Two of the sons came to Ontario, Canada after they were married and died there.
