Gerald Cheser Dryden, son of Julius Garfield Dryden and Grace Tefft Hoppel, was born in 1908 in Dupont, Indiana. The family homesteaded in North Dakota in 1910.

Descendants of John Bounds and his wife Ann Hiam (d. 1677). They migrated to Somerset Co., Maryland from Northumberland Co., Virginia ca. 1671. They settled in the Northern section of Somerset Co., which is now called Wicomico County, owning land in Somerset and Dorchester Counties.
