He married Ann Ellis in 1638, moving later to Groton, Connecticut. John Dowell was born in about 1765 in Maryland. His parents were Richard MacDowell and Elizabeth Hopkins. He married Molly in about 1783 and they had ten children. He died in 1812 in Albemarle County, Virginia. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Barbados, Maryland, Virginia, Kentucky and Nebraska.

Francis Akeley, a immigrant ancestor, was living at Boston, Massachusetts, by 1750, when he married Tabitha Bull there. They had nine children, 1751-1769.
