John Duncan was born on 25 July 1828 in Halbeath, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland and died on 7 June 1910 in Heber City, Utah. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Scotland in 1847 and later served a proseletyzing mission in the Fife area. He married Eliza Bowman on 7 September 1852. They immigrated to America on 20 September 1852 to join the main body of the Church in Utah.

Moroni Duncan was born in Scotland in 1850. His parents were converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and came to Utah when he was about 16. THey settled first in northern Utah and after his marriage to Jane Owens Wardrop in 1875 the family moved to Wyoming. They had six children before Moroni died in a blizzard in the spring of 1894. William Duncan of County Leitrim, Ireland married Jane Elliot of County Fermanagh, Ireland. All of the family except a son, Henry, immigrated to Canada in 1829. William died enroute. The family settled in York County, Ontario. Descendants moved throughout Ontario and eventually into western Canada and the United States.

Jane Owens Wardrop, daughter of of Robert Campbell Wardrop and Margaret Evans Owens, was born in 1859 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Moroni P. Duncan (d. 1894) in 1875. They had six children. She married James Jones Collett in 1896. They had four children. She died in 1951 in Raymond, Alberta.

Duncan De Forbes appears to be the earliest known ancestor of the Forbes family of Forbes, Scotland. He received a charter for lands in Forbes in 1272. Descendants seperated into several distinct branches including Forbes of Forbesfield, the Lords Forbes (including the branch of Baronets of Monymusk), and the Lords of Pitsligo.
