Joseph Ashley, son of Nicholas Ashley, was born at Argile, New York on 13 June 1800. He married Mary Ann Allen at Hartford, New York on 20 May 1807. She was born 14 August 1807 at Stillwater, New York. In the fall of 1843 the family moved from Williamson, New York to Allegan County, Michigan arriving there in January 1844.
