Frederick (Friedrich) Helf, son of Johann Georg Helf and Ottilia Müller, was born in 1818 in Pfifflingheim, Germany. In the late 1830s, he immigrated to Pennsylvania, settling in Pittston, Luzerne County. In 1844, he married Frances J. Harmon Shipman was born in 1717 in Germany and died in 1805 in Uniontown, New Jersey. His parents were probably Herman Schuppmann and Susanna Schoekmann. He emigrated in about 1740.
