Description
It is probable that the ancestors of Joseph Engel came either from Bavaria or from that section of Germany known as the Palatinate bordering on France. Joseph Engel was born 22 April 1856 in Obermonjou, Russia. On January 6, 1879 Joseph married Catherine Younger. Joseph died 20 June 1935 and Catherine died 1 September 1949.

Christian Engel (1765-1838) married in about 1787 and had four children. He married Barbara Brunner (1769-1852) in about 1800. They had five children. They emigrated from Alsace and settled in Illinois in 1833.

Casper Heinrich "Henry" Breder was born in 1845 in Germany. He married Amalia Juliana Freitag (1852-1946) in 1874. The family immigrated to America in 1886, settling in Nebraska. Henry died in 1921 in Perkins Co., Nebraska. Descendants live in Nebraska, Colorado, Oregon, California, and elsewhere in the United States.

The Otto name originated in Europe. The earliest Otto ancestor found was Carl C. Otto, who was born in Pomerania, Prussia in 1816. He migrated to the United States with his wife and youngest child. He settled in Wisconsin and then moved to Iowa where he spent the rest of his life.

Ferdinand Pagel was born in the province of Hinter Pulberg, Germany and married Kristine Schmidt (Schmitt) around 1848. Their eight daughters came to Minnesota between 1882 and 1887. The names of the daughters are Caroline, Friedrika, Bertha, Alvina, Mathilda, Ida, Hulda and Martha. Related surnames are Neumann, Morgenstern, Engel and Wiencke. Descendants live in Minnesota, Missouri and elsewhere in the United States.

Johann Adam Engel, son of Johannes Engel and Susanna Reichel, was born in 1714 in Platten bei Komtau, Sudetenland. He married Susanna Schott in 1739. They had two daughters. He married Anna Maria Raab in 1755 in Bernau. They had a son. He died in 1758 in Rodenau.

This book is about the Grumbachers, a German Baptist Brethren farm family, and how the Grumbacher property came into the possession of the Frick family. Johannes "Hans" Grumbacher arrived at Philadelphia, Pa. from Europe in 1733 and bought land in Coventry Twp., Chester Co., Pa. in 1734. He died in 1744. He had two wives and seven children. Some children stayed in Coventry Twp., others moved in the 1760's to the Pipe Creek area of Frederick (now Carroll)...
