Kelsey is the oldest continuously existing Latter-day Saint settlement in the South. Latter-day Saints settled the community in the late 1890s and it was dedicated as a gathering place for the southern Saints by Elder Abraham O. Woodruf just after the turn of the century.

They were the parents of three children. She died 14 Oct 1865 at Sabula, Iowa. He died at Sabula, Iowa, 19 Jul 1881.
