Robert Sattley was born 25 October 1754 in Dorsetshire, England. He emigrated in 1776. He married Mary Davis (1764-1826), daughter of Daniel Davis and Mary, in about 1779 in Long Island, New York. They had twelve known children. They moved to Vermont in about 1883. He married Lavina Darrah Hawley (1765-1845), a widow with eight children in about 1826. He died in 1844 in Ferrisburgh, Vermont.
