Adam Forbes was born in about 1770. He married Anna Dust, daughter of Mathias Dust, in about 1790. They had eight children. They lived in Fredericksburgh, Ontario. He died 6 March 1815. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in New York and Iowa.

Both the Dingwall and Fordyce families of Aberdeenshire inter-married and were related to other Aberdeenshire families such as Abercrombie, Birch, Douglass and Forbes. The Dingwalls appear to have been in Aberdeenshire as early as the 1600s.
