John Adam Forney bought his family from Germany to Pennsylvania arriving in 1721. They finally settled in York county where they were involved in a series of land disputes. Later he had some encounters with the Indians, who it is reported lead to his death in 1752. Many of his descendants were still in Pennsylvania in 1893 when material was gathered. Others had settled throughout the United States.

Abraham Furney, Jr. was born in Frederick County, Maryland, in 1779, son of Abraham and Mary Furney. He and his wife, Mary Curtis, were the parents of nine children. They moved to Wheeling Township, Guernsy County, Ohio in 1811. He died in 1856. Descendants lived in Ohio, Texas, and elsewhere. Many descendants spelled their name "Forney.".
