Johannes Heinrich Rode was born 8 November 1823 in Lowendorf, Westfalen Province, Germany. In 1848 he immigrated to America and married Dorothy Luppe. They lived in New York City for less than one year before moving to Daton, Ohio. Descendants lived primarily in Ohio and elsewhere.

John Koenig (b.1849) married Katherine Herrman and immigrated from Germany to Alexanderhilf, South Russia, and (after 1888) to South Dakota. Descendants lived in South Dakota, North Dakota, Kansas and elsewhere.
