Samuel Ellis Gandy was born 11 April 1811 in Preston County, West Virginia. His parents were Amos Gandy (1781-1845) and Rachel Mary Menear (1785-1822). They had twelve children. Their son, Samuel Ellis Gandy, Jr. (1845-1926), married Sarah Susannah St. Clair (1845-1929) in 1866 in Troy, Iowa. Cors Pietersen (1612-1655) married Tryntje Hendrickse, and immigrated from Holland to New Amsterdam (now New York), New York before 1638. Their son, Cornelis Corssen (1645-1692 or 3) married Marritje Jacobs van der Grift in 1666, and moved to Staten Island, New York. Descendants lived throughout the United States.
