George Barkhurst (or Barcus) was born 1 May 1776 in Kent Co., Delaware. He was the son of William Barcus and Frances Burrows. George married Tamzen (surname unknown) prior to 1797. Tamzen died in 1828 and George married Rachael Richardson 25 June 1829 in Dearborn Co., Indiana. He was the father of at least ten known children and died 25 March 1855 in Lauramie Township, Indiana. Descendants lived primarily in Indiana, Kansas and elsewhere.
