Description
Elijah Garten was born in 1758. He married Sarah Boyd in Rockingham County, Virginia, in 1782. They moved to the territory that became Tennessee, shortly after their marriage. They had seven children. He died in 1840 and is buried at the Old Shiloh Cemetery, Fayetteville, Indiana. His son, James Garten, was born in what is now Tennessee in 1788. He died in 1874. Descendants listed lived in Indiana and elsewhere.

Description
Thomas Smithson (ca. 1675-1732) married Ann Scott, daughter of Daniel and Jane Johnson Scott, ca. 1703 in Maryland. They had eight children, 1704-1720. He died in Baltimore County, Maryland. Descendants of his sons, Thomas Smithson (1712-1795) and Daniel Smithson (b. 1714), listed lived in Maryland, Georgia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois, and elsewhere. Some descendants spell their name "Smisson.".

Description
William Garten (d. 1709) of Lancaster and Spotsylvania, Virginia, purchased land in 1684. His descendant, James Garten, was born in 1788 at Fort Loudon, North Carolina, the son of Elijah Garten (1758-1840). He married Elizabeth Sears (1791-1824) in Knox County, Kentucky, in 1812. Jonathan Pratt was born in 1745 in Virginia. He married Elizabeth Hughes and they had six children. Jonathan died 8 March 1802 in Newberry County, South Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas and Oklahoma.

Chiefly records of descendants of Preston Conner, son of William Conner (1768-1865) and Susanna Kendall (1783-1866). He was born 3 Jan 1813 in Clarke County, Kentucky. He married Rachael Kendall (1822-1892) in Covington, Virginia, on 29 Aug 1843. He died in Kanawha County, West Virginia in 1865. Descendants lived in Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, Colorado, and elsewhere.

Jacob Mann, Jr. was born in 1745 in McGaheysville, Rockingham, Virginia. His parents were Jacob Mann (1724-1795) and Barbara Miller. He married Mary Kessinger (1763-1851), daughter of Mathias Kessinger and Cynthia Tassens, 24 August 1779 in Augusta County, Virginia. They had ten children. Jacob died in 1815 in Springfield, West Virginia. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia. West Virginia, Tennessee, Illinois and Indiana.

Charles Rogers (1774-1849) immigrated from Ireland to Virginia about 1794, and married Hannah Skidmore in 1796. They were both buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Wallback, West Virginia. Descendants lived chiefly in West Virginia and Oregon.
