Henry Salley (1690-1765) married Mariah Von Arx, and immigrated in 1735 from Switzerland to Orangeburg County, South Carolina. Descendants lived in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, New Jersey, Georgia, Louisiana and elsewhere.

Hugh Phillips (1759-1842) was born in Kendall, Westmoreland, England, and died in Springfield, Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was a shoemaker by trade. He came to New York in 1773. In 1794 he married Mary Bolin (1773-1840), daughter of Edward Bolin and Nancy Ann Elizabeth Salley. She was born in Orangeburg Co., S.C. They were parents to eleven children. Descendants live in South Carolina and elsewhere.

Joseph Isaac Gleaton immigrated from either Ireland or England to South Carolina, and settled in Lenior County, North Carolina, where he married Mary Argoe (Argor) about 1770. Descendants lived in North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi and elsewhere.

Joe Isaac Gleaton was, according to family tradition, born in London, England, about 1740. Joe served in the British Navy until he was ship wrecked off the coast of Port Royal, South Carolina. He went from the coast to Orangeburg County and here purchased a farm in 1770. He married Miss Mary Argrove (Argo), a school teacher, who was born about 1745 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina.
