Jacob Goetz (1843-1884) was born at Leimen, Germany, the son of Christoph Ludwig and Anna Magdalen Schuppel Gotz. He was living in Grant County, Wisconsin, by 1860. He married Christina Catharine Boebel Brechler, a widow with four children, in 1867. They had three children 1868-1873. Jacob Goetz died in Grant County, Wisconsin. Descendants lived in Wisconsin, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, California and elsewhere.

He married Magdalena Brechler, a native of Daisbach, Germany, in 1858 in Grant County. They had twleve children, 1860-1881. Johann and Magdalena Merz died in Grant County, Wisconsin. [Johann] Balthaser Goetz arrived in Philadelphia, September 28, 1753 on the ship, "Two Brothers', from Rotterdam. Balthaser's wife was Maria Margretha. The date of their marriage is unknown, and whether they married in Germany or Pennsylvania is unknown. It is guessed that Balthaser may originally have come from Halle, in Eastern Germany. Martin O'Clear was born in 1820 in Ireland. He married Mary Scully, who was born in 1823 in County Limerick, Ireland. They had eight children. They immigrated to the United States in about 1850 and settled in Iowa City, Iowa. Martin's siblings, Mark, Billy, Matt and Mary, also immigrated and settled in Iowa with their families. Descendants and relatives lived in Iowa, Indiana, Missouri, Colorado and elsewhere.
