Diary of Elijah Preston Howell, son of John Howell and Nancy Baker, who was born in 1803 in Grayson County, Virginia. He crossed the plains from Athens, Missouri to California in 1849. He married Margaret Jane Moreland in 1851. He died in 1879 in Mendocino County, California.
