James Sims was born in about 1705 in Culpeper, Virginia. He married Sarah in about 1727. They had eight children. He died 26 August 1772 in Pittsylvania, Virginia. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

Pisgah Church has existed as early as 1790 on the Otter River. It united with Peaks and New London Churches in the 1800's and was known as Pisgah and New London Church. The latest Pisgah Church was organized in 1931. Records give the location of the church as Pisgah, then Lowry until 1958 when it change to Goode.
