Walter Slaughter was born about 1755 in Lunenburg County, Virginia and raised by his maternal grandparents, the Richard Leakes. He fought in Revolutionary War and married Susannah Webb. He and his family moved to Georgia about 1799 and then on to Mississippi territory. Today his descendants live in Texas, Oklahoma and elsewhere in the United States.
