Edmond Gould was born in 1762 in Amherst, Massachusetts. He married Sarah Mott (1769-1831), daughter of John Mott and Martha, in 1788 in Canterbury, Connecticut. They had nine children. He died in 1836 in New York.

Zaccheus Gould, born about 1589, resided at Hemel Hempsted and Great Missenden, in England. He immigrated to New England about 1638 and settled in Topsfield, Massachusetts. He and his wife, Phebe (d. 1663) had five children. He died in Topsfield about 1670. Descendants lived in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and elsewhere.

Jane Augusta Holbrook and Albert L. Gould were married in Garnavillo, Iowa July 4, 1852. Albert died February 2, 1863. She married Levi Lancaster Tourtillott February 20, 1864 and died October 5, 1917.
Written in two parts, the first by Albert and covering the dates May 28, 1860 to July 8, 1860. The second by Jane Holbrook Gould covered the dates April 27, 1862 to October 8, 1862.
