John Jacob Egg was a native of Canton Solothurn, Switzerland. He married Anna Maria K̈ulcher of Flumentahl. In 1745 the family immigrated to Pennsylvania to Philadephia County. Surname was anglicized to "Eck" and other variant spellings. One descendant, Joseph Eck (1797-1856), was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Bower in 1816. Descendants lived in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.

Charles Joseph Anton Gehling, son of Franz Göhling and Anna Maria Gramlich, was born in Schlierstadt, Baden, Germany in 1822. He emigrated in 1848. He married Sophia Leist, daughter of John Bartel Leist and Sophia Kolb, in 1852 in Maple Grove, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. They had eleven children. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Germany and Wisconsin.
