Jacob Weldon (ca.1723-1783) and his family settled in St. Paul's Parish (later Richmond County, now Columbia County), Georgia in 1772, moving there from either Virginia or the Carolinas. Descendants lived in Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and elsewhere.

The earliest known ancestor of the Cram family was Ludolf von Cramm (ca. 1243) who was a german knight and was the father of Lippold von Cramm (ca. 1296-1305). He was the ancestor of John Cram (1596-1681) who was born in England and immigrated to America. He settled in Massachusetts with his wife Esther White. They became the parents of eight children. Their numerous descendants live throughout the United States.
