Benjamin Jiggins, son of Benjamin Jiggins and Hannah Coote, was born in 1810 in Witham, Essex, England. He was transported to Tasmania in 1840. He married Catherine Rawet (1831-1910), daughter of Alexander Rawet and Ann Peddie, in 1855 in Christchurch, Victoria, Geelong, Australia. They had seven children. He died in Kensington, Australia.
