John Griffin (1804-1876) was born in England. He married Mary Chapman (1801-1851), and they had six children. They immigrated to the United States in 1845 and settled in Benton Township, Lake County, Illinois. He married Harriet Kirk (1823-1899) in 1852, and they had five children. Descendants and relatives lived in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Washington and elsewhere.

Edward Griffin, Sr. was born about 1602 in Wales. He immigrated to America in 1635. He was an indentured servant in Maryland and later moved to Long Island, New York. He married Mary in about 1655. They had at least four children. Edward died after 1698 in Flushing, Queens, New York. Descendants and relatives lived in New York, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, Washington, Ontario, New Brunswick, British Columbia and elsewhere.
