Samuel Griffin (d.1729), probably a Welsh immigrant, moved from Pennsylvania to New Castle County, Delaware. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Texas and elsewhere.

Penelope Vanprincis (ca.1622-1712) and her first husband (whose name is not known) emigrated from Amsterdam, Holland to New Amsterdam about 1640, arriving with a shipwreck. Penelope and her husband waited while other survivors went for help, but the Indians came first, killed the husband, and left Penelope for dead.
